Our Doctors

Our team of eye care professionals is led by David M. Harman, M.D., one of the most experienced cataract and refractive surgeons in Virginia.

David M. Harman, M.D. is the founder of Harman Eye Center and Medical Director of Eye Surgery Center of Central Virginia. Dr. Harman received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Virginia, and he completed his residency training at the Medical College of Georgia, where he served as Chief Resident. In 1988, he established his practice in Lynchburg, specializing in cataract and refractive surgery.

Dr. Harman is board certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Medical Society of Virginia, and the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society.

Dr. Harman has invented instruments for eye surgery and has written peer review articles in national medical journals. He currently serves as Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia.


Landon Colling, M.D. received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and completed his residency in ophthalmology at Ohio State University. Dr. Colling has also conducted extensive research on keratonconus, the deterioration of the cornea, and has led several medical and ophthalmic service projects in Central and South America. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Colling joined Harman Eye Center in August of 2010.




Amber J. Colling, O.D. received her undergraduate degree from Olivet Nazarene University and her Doctor of Optometry from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in Columbus. Dr. Colling is a member of the Virginia Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Colling joined Harman Eye Center in August of 2010.






Tabitha Combes, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis and her undergraduate degree from Austin Peay State University. Dr. Combes is a member of the Virginia Optometric Assocation and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Combes joined Harman Eye Center in July of 2007.






Brian P. Conway, M.D. received his medical degree from Georgetown University and completed his residency in ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins University, where he served as Chief Resident. He obtained his Retinal Surgery fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami. Dr. Conway specializes in the treatment of diabetic eye diseases and macular degeneration. He also served as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia from 1978 to 2008 and is well published in national medical journals. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Medical Society of Virginia, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Conway joined Harman Eye Center in March of 2010.


Michael Curl, O.D. received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his Doctor of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Dr. Curl is a member of the Virginia Optometric Assocation and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Curl joined Harman Eye Center in August of 2006.






B. Douglas Haley, O.D. received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and his Doctor of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Dr. Haley is a member of the Virginia Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Haley joined Harman Eye Center in August of 1995.






Tracy Scheibe, O.D. received her undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and her Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Scheibe is a member of the Virginia Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Scheibe joined Harman Eye Center in June of 2007.






Alan E. Szczesniewski, D.O. received his medical degree from The New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency in ophthalmology at The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition to obtaining his Fellowship at the Siepser Laser Eyecare in Paoli, PA in Anterior Segment and Refractive Surgery, he has lectured and published various articles on the subject.

Dr. Szczesniewski, or “Dr. Chez” as we like to call him, is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Osteopathic Association and previously practiced Ophthalmology in New Jersey. Dr. Szczesniewski joined Harman Eye Center in January 2011.
